Liam and Noel Gallagher have been busy reminding everyone that they used to be in a band and that the band's name was 'Oasis'. The band no longer plays together as a band, but Liam has a new band, called 'BDI', which features not two, but one Gallagher brother – himself.

The Gallaghers in better times. The distance between them is now greater than the gap between their eyes.

Liam and Noel have both been speaking to anyone who'll listen about why they still do not like each other, never have liked each other and probably never will like each other.

Surprisingly, Noel Gallagher has accused his brother, Liam, of “lyin'” and “makin' stuff up 'n' dat.” Liam has countered these accusations, saying, “Yeah, he would say dat, would'n'he? 'E's a friggin' tosser!” Liam has also accused Noel of being rude to people for 18 years, although sources close to the band, which has now definitely split up, say it was more like 19 years.

The band's illustrious career, which saw them overtake The Mock Turtles as the sound of Britpop and The Longpigs as the saviours of rock music in Britain, was peppered with insults and in-fighting (well, just fighting, actually).

If you have bothered to read this far, the spat centres on why one of the brothers, er, Liam, I think, was unable to play at a gig some years back, which everyone had otherwise forgotten about in any case.

Liam said, “Dere's 'no truth in de matter – I'm a big boy and I can fight me own battles, 'N' anyways, 'ow comes ar' kid's always friggin' godda be right? Dere'll be 'Ell to pay when me Mam finds out! Mam! Mam!”

For those interested, the current dispute is believed to date back to 1975, when Liam picked up a Matchbox car Noel had been playing with in the garden and refused to hand it back.

The nascent band came into existence in 1988, when Liam and Noel were fighting in the playground. Someone handed Liam a guitar, with which he hit his brother, Noel, over the head. It was another five years before they were inspired by Stone Roses, who were noted for not hitting each other over the head with guitars, to play in a Beatles tribute band together, as they did, in fact, for the rest of their career.

Alan McGee famously spotted the brothers arguing at a gig in a pub in Accrington and, as the legend goes, signed them on the spot, but told them to sing in English from then on, as no-one could understand their Northern dialect. The Gallagher brothers would have taken exception, only they could not understand McGee's Scottish brogue and everyone just smiled at each other for 10 minutes, before Noel punched Liam again.

Since that time, they achieved greatness and then mediocrity. Now they are known for their arguing as much as they are for copying just about every style dem' Beatles came up with. Other influences include Lennon and McCartney.

The band split up in whichever year it was, due to musical indifference.
